Sacred Heart Church Columbarium

In 2010, a room in the Crypt, directly under Our Lady’s Altar was fitted out and consecrated as a Columbarium for the interment of ashes. Several families have decided to place the remains of their loved ones in our Columbarium because of a strong desire to be laid to rest in the church that they loved and served. Their names are recorded on a plaque next to Our Lady’s Altar, and another memorial is placed on the outside of the church.

The grounds of the church have been designed to enable those visiting the church and the Columbarium to sit in a peaceful and beautiful space to honour the memory of their loved ones. Throughout the year, and especially during the month of November, the whole church community regularly prays for all those interred in our Columbarium, especially when the annual Mass for Deceased Spouses is celebrated. There is always the opportunity to light a candle, by Our Lady’s Altar, in memory of loved ones in the Columbarium.
